چکیده

In the last years there has been an increasing demand of a variety of logical systems, prompted mostly by applications of logic in AI, logic programming and other related areas. Labeled Deductive Systems (LDS) were developed as a flexible methodology to formalize such a kind of complex logical systems. In the last decade, defeasible argumentation has proven to be a confluence point for many approaches to formalizing commonsense reasoning. Different formalisms have been developed, many of them sharing common features. This paper summarizes the relevant features of an argumentative LDS, in which the main issues concerning defeasible argumentation are captured within a unified logical framework. The proposed framework is defined in two stages. First, defeasible inference will be formalized by characterizing a defeasible LDS. That system will be then extended in order to obtain an argumentative LDS.

Modelling Inference in Argumentation through Labelled Deduction: Formalization and Logical Properties

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has long dealt with the issue of finding a suitable formalization for commonsense reasoning. Defeasible argumentation has proven to be a successful approach in many respects, proving to be a confluence point for many alternative logical frameworks. Different formalisms have been developed, most of them sharing the common notions of argument and warrant. In defeasibl...

Argumentation Based on Classical Logic

Argumentation is an important cognitive process for dealing with conflicting information by generating and/or comparing arguments. Often it is based on constructing and comparing deductive arguments. These are arguments that involve some premises (which we refer to as the support of the argument) and a conclusion (which we refer to as the claim of the argument) such that the support deductively...

Towards Computational Models of Natural Argument using Labelled Deductive Systems

During the last decade computational models of argument have emerged as a successful approach to the formalization of commonsense reasoning, encompassing many other alternative formalisms. Common elements can be identified in such frameworks along with a number of particular features which make it difficult to compare them with each other from a logical viewpoint. This paper presents a unifying...
